light man part 2
As many of you know or many not know, I have a passion for Holiday decorations be it Halloween, Thanksgiving and especially Christmas. This year I decided to upgrade majority of the lights to LED and to top it off I added a 6 channel music box.
I can say that this year I had many moments of quitting, but each time I looked at our princess I knew I had to continue. If I have done this for over 25 years for everyone to enjoy, now I have more of a reason to continue decorating for our daughter to enjoy. I remember each time I would take a break she would come out and grab my tools or a strand of lights and act as if she was helping me. She would look at me, point to the strand of lights or tools and say “papa”. This would just give me a jolt of energy to continue and stay on track with my project plan.
Friday November 28th came around and it was our traditional lighting ceremony. All family and friends gather around the house to enjoy the moment. This year I lit up the house with the music box on steady. As all family and friends were watching, I turned off the box (which turns off about 75% of all lights) and all I could hear was ohhh’s as they thought something had gone bad. Then I switched it to synchronize and turned it back on to surprise them. I then heard all the ahhh’s.
As I was doing my walk thru to make sure all was working as it should, my cousin tells me how cool it would look if I had a drone to capture some aerial footage. I agreed and continued my walk thru. Then I turned around and saw my princess with my wife admiring all the lights and decorations. This was the moment I have longed for. Seeing her admiring all the work her dad had done. She was dancing with Santa, blowing kisses to baby Jesus, giving high 5’s to the inflatable Santa and saying Ho Ho Ho. Now every night around 5:45 I tell her “vamos encender las luces” (let’s turn on the lights) and she goes with me to plug in the extension cords and turn on all the breakers necessary to turn on all the lights. Then she tells me Ho Ho Ho which means to go up front to see the lights. One night as we looking at the decorations, she grabs my hand and pulls it down telling me to sit down with her on the side walk. As we were sitting there, she gets up, sits on my lap and lays her little head on my chest… As you can imagine happy tears were just flowing as this memorable moment was being created. In the end, part of father’s duties is to be “creator of memories” and I want to say I achieved it this year.
Catalina Nicole, one day you will read this and I want you to know that your parents love you very much. You have brought much love and happiness to this family. May your smile always be as contagious as it is today. I pray to god that no one ever takes your smile away and never let anyone take it away. I want you to know that I will always do everything possible to be your greatest supporter, fan, advocate, best friend and most importantly the best father in the world. I love you more then words can say. Papi
Here is a small video I created of the house this year.
